Assisted Reproduction Technique (ART) is the technology used to achieve pregnancy in procedures such as fertility medication, artificial insemination, in-vitro fertilization and surrogacy. It is reproductive technology used primarily for infertility treatments, and is also known as fertility treatment. It mainly belongs to the field of reproductive endocrinology and infertility, and may also include Intra-Cytoplasmic Sperm Injection (ICSI) and cryopreservation. Some forms of ART are also used with regard to fertile couples for genetic reasons (preimplantation genetic diagnosis). ART is also used for couples who are discordant for certain communicable diseases; for example, AIDS to reduce the risk of infection when a pregnancy is desired.
Currently, various therapeutic methods such as ICSI, ZIFT, IVF and IUI are applied in the ART Laboratory of Yazd Reproductive Sciences Institute. The ART Lab consists of two departments: Embryology and Andrology. This Lab is equipped with the world's most advanced facilities including Polscope IMSI microscopes and continuous imaging of embryo technique (called Time-lapse imaging). In the Embryology Department, the eggs are isolated from the ovaries of patient and prepared for assisted reproduction techniques
such as IVF and ICSI.
After determining treatment protocol in the joint session of specialized team, the couples are treated by one of the abovementioned techniques according to their needs.
Now, the ART Lab includes medical centers, research centers, ART research laboratory where PhD and MSc students conduct research.
