The education system in Iran before university is divided into two main levels: Primary school and High school.
All Iranian children spend six years of their lives at primary level from age 6 to 12 and attend high school from age 12 to 18. Primary education is obligatory in Iran. There are many free public schools as well as private ones. In Iran,
all schools are unisex.
The requirement to enter into higher education is to have a high school diploma, and finally pass the national
university entrance exam (known as “Concours”, the French word meaning competition).
